Holiday boredom buster! Design the 2008 Children's Fiesta poster
10 Jan 2008
CALLING all pint-sized Picassos, would-be Warhols and budding Botticellis - children looking for some groovy holiday fun are invited to design a poster for the Fremantle Children's Fiesta, as part of a special competition.
Using the theme of “kids partying in the bush” – tying in with the fiesta’s location at Samson Park – the winner’s art work will be used for the official 2008 poster, distributed throughout Fremantle.
Open to all children under 12 living in or attending school within the City of Fremantle and its suburbs, the winner will receive Fremantle Leisure Centre’s inflatable pool crocodile for a one-hour session, a 10-visit pass for the winner and 10 friends, a children’s book from Dymocks Fremantle and a framed 2008 Children’s Fiesta poster.
Second and third prize winners will also receive a children’s book from Dymocks Fremantle.
"Whether it’s paint, markers, collage or coloured pencils, this is a great way to be creative, have fun and maybe even get your work recognised by a wide audience,” Fremantle children's librarian Linda Thorne said.
City of Fremantle Community Development Officer Leigh McGowan said it was an opportunity for kids to get in touch with their creative side during the holidays.
“It’s a friendly form of self-expression for kids, tying in with the fun feel of the fiesta,” she said. “And a great way to have your art work shown around Fremantle.”
Poster entries should be mailed to Leigh McGowan, CDU, City of Fremantle, PO Box 807, Fremantle WA 6959, or placed in Fremantle City Library’s entry box by 5pm, February 11, and should be no bigger than A3 size on paper or card.
The 2008 Fremantle Children’s Fiesta will be held at Samson Park on Sunday, April 13, from 10am to 3pm with plenty of activities including music, workshops, performances, face-painting, entertainment and much more.
“Volunteers are also needed for this event and any level of involvement is appreciated, whether a couple of hours on the day or a larger organisational role,” Ms McGowan said.
