Marketing Fremantle to the masses: Fremantle First enters new era

07 May 2008
MARKETING and business development for Fremantle is set to increase from July 1 with the City of Fremantle boosting its promotional activities, using a raft of strategies.

The city will take on management of the Fremantle First brand and associated activities, following wide-ranging consultation and a comprehensive review of marketing and local business initiatives.

City of Fremantle Economic Development & Marketing Coordinator David Duncanson said the new direction would see businesses offered several support services.

“These include cooperative marketing opportunities, targetted communication for specific needs and information from business stakeholders, including security and crime updates from Fremantle Police,” he said.

“The city is also considering a differential rate levy for businesses in the Fremantle CBD, helping to further promote Fremantle and bring more customers to their doors.

“We’re also working collaboratively with Fremantle Police to help businesses with crime prevention, undertaking a survey of business owners to help develop a safer community.”

Fremantle Mayor Peter Tagliaferri said the change in direction for Fremantle First was important on a number of levels – but the key was to capitalise on major economic growth experienced over the past few years.

“Fremantle First has made great strides in promoting Fremantle as a business and tourist centre since its inception and we now want to build on that strength to ensure we remain well-positioned in these areas into the future,” he said.

“An integrated marketing approach is instrumental in delivering flow-on benefits to the whole community and bringing this brand in-house is allowing the City of Fremantle to enhance what has already been achieved by setting specific priorities, actions and goals.

“Ultimately, increasing the number of shoppers, tourists and other visitors stimulates economic growth and creates even more employment, while more foot traffic in the Fremantle CBD contributes to a safer city.
“Taking on the management of the Fremantle First brand is further opportunity to highlight why Fremantle is a vibrant and wonderful place to be, ready to deliver positive outcomes for local businesses.

“John Longley and his team at the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce should be congratulated for the work they have done over the past nine years in establishing Fremantle First as a tangible identity, ensuring its longevity into the future.”
