Fremantle's Street Arts Festival - Adventurous, Astonishing and Inspiring

05 Feb 2009

IT’S ADVENTUROUS, ASTONISHING and AWE-INSPIRING - it’s FREMANTLE’S STREET ARTS FESTIVAL 2009

Australia’s largest Street Arts Festival will explode onto the streets of Fremantle over the Easter long weekend, from April 11 to 13, with some crazy, courageous and remarkably eye-catching acts to mark its 11th year.

The best comedians, dancers, acrobats, trapeze artists, magicians, jugglers, vaudevillians, musicians, clowns, mimes, visual artists and human statues will perform at pitches across Fremantle (sponsored by Healthway smoke-free) in what is shaping up as the most outrageous event Fremantle has ever hosted.

Event organiser Siobhan Wood says this year’s festival features some world class performances, many never before seen in Western Australia including Los Angeles sensation – The Blackstreet Boyz, aka Alfred and Seymour who will have audiences hooting at their comedy, marvelling at their dancing and leaving the show inspired to be better people because of their messages of love, life and laughter.

Jardu – the Magic of India will weave his mystical charm using a blend of comedy and eastern and western cultures. Organisers say Jardu was trained by Indian Fakirs with supernatural powers and will amaze everyone with his unique show of magic, sword swallowing and traditional snake charming.

“After thrilling audiences around the world, third generation circus performers, brother and sister duo The Pitts will also appear for the first time at Fremantle’s Festival with a non-stop repertoire of finely skilled acrobatics, unusual juggling, bizarre contortion and off-beat humour,” Siobhan said.

“From Fishing Boat Harbour to Old Shanghai, Fremantle Prison, the Woolstores Shopping Centre to the Sail & Anchor Pub Brewery and the Fremantle Markets along the Cappuccino Strip, Fremantle will party from 12 noon till late each day.

“Last year, more than 100,000 people were delighted, awe struck and entertained by more than 100 performances and it’s all free.

“So I urge everyone to put the Easter weekend in their calendar.”

The WAtoday Festival Courtyard Cabaret at Fremantle Arts Centre is on Sunday evening and provides the perfect picnic spot. As for the entire festival, the top-class entertainment is free.

Little Creatures Festival Club is on Saturday and Sunday.
