                           Port Lead Protest

ANTI-LEAD protestors will rally in Fremantle’s Kings Square (next to the Town Hall) on Thursday, November 20 starting at 12noon to protest plans to export lead through the Port of Fremantle.

The protest is organised by Fremantle Mayor Peter Tagliaferri with various community groups.

The Mayor said he expected hundreds of people to attend, reflecting the community’s strong anti-lead stance in light of the environmental disaster in Esperance in 2007.

The protest is the first lunch-time rally in the City’s history. It has been organised in anticipation of the State Government approving the bid by Magellan Metals to export lead through the Fremantle port, despite a pre-election assurance by Liberal leader Colin Barnet that he would not permit lead to be shipped through Fremantle if elected.

Local and State Members of Parliament are expected to be among the speakers.  All members of the media are invited to attend.
