  Winning Designer In

Twilight Fashion Show

An EXCITING Fremantle designer, whose fashion will feature at the Fremantle Festival Fashion Parade at the Roundhouse on November 15, has been named a finalist in the national Ragtrader/TNT Fashion Retailer of the Year Awards.

Designer Sheree Dornan and her husband John are also a part of Fremantle’s dynamic High Street Fashion Collective promoting local designers in High Street.

They established their first Love in Tokyo store in High Street more than five years ago and on the back of that success recently expanded to King Street, Perth.

In October they were invited by iconic trade magazine, Ragtrader, to nominate for the 2008 Fashion Retailer of the Year Award and received word this week that they are finalists. The winner will be named on November 26, 2008 at an event at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.

Mrs Dornan said she believed they reached the finals because their store was quite unique and the designs were limited pieces, not mass produced and represented a different way of dressing based on layering.

She said she was really excited to be named a finalist.

“It shows that we have something different to offer customers and that we are recognised by our peers for that,” she said.

Love in Tokyo is among cutting edge designers parading their creations at the Transformation Parade at the Roundhouse on November 15 from 7pm. Others are Ashe, Rushme, Kartique, Hustle, Tricycle, Loop and Mabu.

The open-air Fremantle Festival parade, with the historical Roundhouse as a dramatic backdrop, is collaboration between the designers and the West End Dance Academy whose dancers will choreograph the event and model with Scene Model Management.

It will feature a special performance by the Sugar Blue Burlesque Dancers.
